A new price benchmark for Ethiopian coffee
A Guji microlot sold for US$2,376 a kilo at a private producer auction in London.
The second annual Faysel Abdosh Signature private auction, run by Testi Specialty Coffee and the M-Cultivo platform in London, offered 16 microlots from the Guji zone of Ethiopia.
Lot 13 sold for US$2,376 per kilo, which set a new benchmark price for Ethiopian coffee.
The auction is built around a single producer's name. It shows how farmer-led branding is becoming a way for origins to capture more of the value of their best coffees.
If Bangladesh's hill farmers produce specialty-grade lots one day, telling the producer's story could matter as much as the beans.
